This is the varietal that practically started the coffee industry in El Salvador, every estate in El Salvador used to grow Bourbon, but now it is been replaced little by little with other varieties that are more resistant to coffee diseases and pest and this reason is making Bourbon less accesible and it is becoming a “hard to get” specialty coffee. The Bourbon coffee varietal is a gourmet Arabica coffee plant, and are descendants of those brought to the island of Reunion (formerly Bourbon), which is located in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Africa. It is not one of the four main coffee species (Arabica, Robusta, Liberica, Excelsa).
Our Bourbon is from the Mountains of Jayaque in El Salvador and grows at 1200 MASL, it is bold and acidity is well balanced, the coffee beans brings hints of citrus, chocolate and little of floral flavors.
